A short checklist for finding out why a connection is slow or unstable.
Work through the connection in layers rather than restarting everything at random. The four checks above narrow the problem to your device, your Wi-Fi, your router or your provider.
Start with the Internet Speed Calculator, use the Bandwidth Calculator for household demand and the Wi-Fi Speed Calculator if coverage is the issue. The full connection guide explains the terms in more depth.
Shared local networks are busiest in the evening. If speeds recover late at night, congestion is a likely cause.
A restart can clear temporary faults. Test from the same place before and after so you can tell whether it helped.
If a wired test on a quiet network stays well below your plan speed at all hours, contact them with your results.
